This is a translation, provided so that the terms can be read in English. In case of any discrepancy, the Finnish version at vuokrakalu.fi/terms.html is the one that applies.
1. General
These terms apply to every rental made through Vuokrakalu. You accept them by making a booking request or renting a tool.
- Owner: Vuokrakalu (Janne Anttila), Metsokangas, Oulu
- Renter: the person or company making the booking
Definitions. A vuorokausi is the time from collection to the agreed return, roughly 24 hours; I am not strict about the clock. Normal wear means wear from ordinary use as intended — blades going blunt, surfaces scratching, parts gradually tiring. Replacement value means the price of a comparable used device of similar age and condition, not the price of a new one.
The renter must be of legal age. This is a service between private individuals.
2. Bookings and prices
- You can request a booking on the website, by phone or on WhatsApp
- A request is not yet a booking — I confirm it separately, usually within the hour during the day
- Prices are given for 1, 2, 4 and 7 days. Each is the total for the whole rental, and a longer rental is always cheaper per day
- The shortest rental is one vuorokausi
- Payment on collection, or in advance if separately agreed
- Cash and MobilePay. No invoices are sent
- I am not registered for VAT, so VAT cannot be deducted
- You can cancel at any time at no cost. Please tell me as soon as you know
- To extend a rental, tell me before the agreed time ends. The price is agreed separately and an extension is not automatic — the tool may be booked by someone else
If I cannot hand the tool over at the agreed time for an exceptional reason — the tool breaking, a previous rental running late, my own illness — I will tell you immediately and the booking is cancelled at no charge. I am not liable for other costs the cancellation causes you.
3. Collection and return
- Collection is from the owner's home in Metsokangas, Oulu
- Evenings and weekends are easiest, but mornings and daytime often work — ask for a time that suits you
- Tools are handed over checked and working
- Inspect the tool at handover and report any faults immediately. If nothing is reported at handover, the tool is deemed to have been in the agreed condition
- I may ask to see identification at handover, and may decline to hand the tool over if identity cannot be established or if it otherwise does not seem safe. No rent is charged in that case
- Home delivery is available in the Oulu area; the fee and time are agreed separately in advance
- Return the tool at the agreed time. A late return is charged at the tool's normal daily price per started day — tell me in advance and it can usually be sorted without a charge
- If the tool is not returned and I am not contacted within seven days of the agreed return, it is treated as lost and its replacement value is invoiced in addition to the rent for the overdue days
- Return it in normal condition. A bit of dirt does not matter
- Batteries do not need recharging
- Fuel and other consumables are always agreed separately
4. Liability and insurance
⚠️ Important
The renter is fully responsible for using and storing the tool safely during the rental — including for having sufficient skill and the appropriate protective equipment.
The owner is not liable for accidents that happen while using the tool, nor for damage caused with it to people, property, the environment or third parties. The renter is.
Check your own insurance cover before renting.
The renter is responsible for using the tools properly and safely, for the tool being lost, stolen or damaged during the rental, for damage caused with it to third parties or their property, and for following the instructions. The tool must be kept somewhere safe for the whole rental — not left unattended in an unlocked vehicle, in a yard or on a site overnight.
The person who made the booking is responsible for the tool and for these terms being followed, even when somebody else uses it.
Insurance. There is no separate tool insurance. The owner is a private person renting out his own machines. Unforeseen damage usually falls under the renter's own home insurance; claiming from it is the renter's responsibility, and repair costs are payable to the owner regardless of whether a claim is made. Insurance will generally not pay for a theft where the tool was left carelessly unattended.
What costs and what does not.
- Normal wear: no charge
- Breakdown in normal use: no charge. If your job is left unfinished because of it, I refund the rent. That refunded rent is the only compensation the owner pays in such a case
- Damage from an external cause: repair costs. This means a sudden and unforeseen event — a drop, a knock, a dent, the tool ending up under a car
- Misuse or use other than as intended: repair costs
- Damage beyond repair: the tool's replacement value, where the damage is from an external cause, misuse, or use other than as intended
- Loss, theft or failure to return: the tool's full replacement value
Limitation of the owner's liability. The owner's liability is limited to the rent paid for that rental. The owner is not liable for indirect loss such as lost earnings, project delay, materials bought or labour hired. This limitation does not apply to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, and does not limit a consumer's statutory rights.
5. Safety and use
- The renter is responsible for having the skill to use the tool safely. If you are unsure, ask before renting
- The owner will advise on using the tool at handover
- Always use appropriate protective equipment
- Follow the tool's instructions
- Do not modify tools or remove safety devices
- Stop using the tool immediately if something goes wrong
Prohibited: using the tool for anything other than its intended purpose, renting it on to a third party, using it under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and taking the equipment abroad.
If the renter materially breaches these terms, the owner may terminate the rental and require the tool to be returned immediately. The rent is not refunded in that case, and the renter is liable for any damage caused by the breach.
6. Complaints and disputes
Report faults as soon as you notice them — preferably at collection or during the rental, so they can be dealt with. You can also complain afterwards by email; this term does not limit a consumer's statutory rights.
Disputes are settled primarily by negotiation. If no agreement is reached, a consumer may take the matter to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariitalautakunta) or to the district court of their home district.
7. Privacy and other terms
Personal data is processed in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. See the privacy notice for details.
The agreement is formed when the owner confirms the booking request and ends when the tool has been returned and the rent paid. Before confirmation, neither party is bound to anything.
The owner may change these terms. A rental is always governed by the terms in force when the booking was confirmed — a change does not affect a booking already confirmed.
Finnish law applies to the agreement.
